Saturday, May 23
It rained all night, and the forecast for the next several days was rain, rain, rain. So, we decided to cut our itinerary short by one day, and head north to our dear friends the Carloughs in Pleasanville, NY for Saturday night, and then head home to East Sandwich on Sunday.
It would be impossible for us to leave the area without stopping at the Gettysburg Baking Company, I should confess that when we plan our visits to Gettysburg we always make sure that we will be there when this bakery is open!
The bakery is located in the heart of downtown Gettysburg in Lincoln Square, just opposite the Wills House.
Joni's favorite: the morning roll, a flaky Danish pastry rolled in vanilla and orange sugar.
My favorite: the pecan sticky bun. I only ordered one, not three.
We consumed these delicacies in the bakery, and before leaving I updated our blog and Joni did some last minute gift shopping for Christmas stocking stuffers.
By 11 AM we were back on the road, heading north to Pleasanville. Between the rain, and the heavy Memorial Day traffic, we soon encountered another traffic jam on US 15 when a car skidded off the road and ended up deep in the woods. Two fire trucks were needed to block the road while rescue workers attended to this crash.
We finally arrived at Rosemary and Bill's home around 4 PM and spent the rest of the afternoon and evening catching up with our dear friends and gracious hosts. Bill is a great cook and prepared a delicious dinner of Italian braciola, and Rosemary, an equally talented baker, added her version of Hostess cupcakes which were far tastier than anything that Hostess ever made.
We closed the evening watching the Knicks-Cavaliers basketball game. As a diehard Celtic fan it is hard to admit that the Knicks look awfully good.

Good to know you are home. Thanks for the ride along.
