Day 3, Monday
Our first morning at our campground. We got off to a slow start, but what’s the rush; we're retired and on vacation! We slept until 7:30, showered, and drove into Lewes for breakfast.
Lewes is a beautiful town with incredible architecture. Their main street, 2nd street, reminds me a lot of Natucket...without the New Yorkers!
We had breakfast at Nectar’s Café and Wine Bar. Their menu is exceptional; every item including the orange juice is perfect. I think we’re going back tomorrow!
Leaving Nectar’s we did some sight seeing and searched for a stronger cell signal than what we have at the campground. We found an ideal spot, right along the inland waterway
Returning to the campground just after noon, we were way too stuffed to consider lunch, so I went for a bike ride in the park and Joni organized the inside of our van which quite cluttered very quickly. The roads in the Cape Henlopen State Park do not have much traffics and there are bike paths as well so it’s a very safe and relaxing place for cycling. The park was acquired from the US government after WW II when it functioned as Fort Mills, one of many similar coastal forts. There are plenty of cannons, lookout towers, and other military structures, all of which are labeled in detail.
Returning to our campsite, I joined Joni who was already napping.
Around 5 PM, we headed south to Rehobeth Beach to the Henlopen Oyster House, another of our favorite restaurants in the area. President Biden was a frequent diner at this locale, especially when he was a Senator, but he has not been there in a while according to our waiter.
I chose an oyster sampler to start and then followed it with a delicious bouillabaisse. Joni opted for a lobster roll and fries, which she loved, and we closed the meal sharing very tasty and very rich slice of peanut butter pie. We over ate!
OYSTER HOUSE PUNCH
pineapple infused rum, dark rum, splash peach liqueur, orange, raspberry, cranberry, grenadine
Most of these oysters were from New England, one was from Virginia, and one from British Columbia. They were all delicious.

When given a choice, we always go for the New England oysters :-)
