Day 1

We were on the road by 7:00 AM, heading for Glastonbury to watch our grandsons', Jackie and Billy, weekly swimming lesson.  They do this every Saturday morning, but we've never had the pleasure of watching them in person.   Jack is 6 and Billy is 4.  So glad we saw them, definitely worth the drive and early start.

The boys love their swimming lessons but I think they get as much enjoyment out of using the blow dryers after their lessons!

After swimming we returned to Nick and Chetty's home.  Unfortunately our visit was a short one since Jack was invited to go for a ride on a real Thomas the Tank Engine train ride in Essex, CT.

Leaving Glastonbury around noon, we headed for our hotel, the Tarrytown House Estate Hotel, in Tarrytown, NY.  The hotel is a historic 26-acre estate dating back to the 1840s, featuring 19th-century private Gilded Age mansion. It llater became the country’s first dedicated conference center. It now operates as a luxury hotel, wedding venue, and resort with recent $15 million renovations.

The hotel is set on a gorgeous estate and it has a wonderful dining room that features a Chinese food menu.  We were thrilled that we did not have to drive anywhere for dinner, but the quality of the food made it an even bigger bonus.  It was outstanding.

Since it was Derby Day, I ordered a Mint Julep.  Although our waiter wasn't familar with the drink, fortunately the bar tender was.  The drink was perfect, so I had two.  Joni opted for mocktail of pomegranate juice, lime juice, and club soda.  She said it tasted as good as it looked.

Singapore Chow Fun Noodle, Seasonal Vegetables, Peanuts

Walnut Shrimp, Candied Walnuts, Walnut Aioli, Pomegranates

Strawberry Coconut Snow, Chocolate, Coconut, Fresh Strawberries

Overall, our dinner was outstanding, much better than any Chinese food I've had in years, and that includes my trip to China in 2008.

Returning to our hotel room we watched the Derby and the then Celtics.

    1. It was, and we really selected the restaurant only because it was in the hotel. Truly serendipitous.

  5. Derby was fun.... Celtics not so much... amazing that they blew a 3-1 series lead... now all that's left until August is the Sox (ugh)
