Day 6

 Day 6

We started our day going to a French bakery in Greenville, “A Piece of France”.  Paul assured us that the pastry was especially good, and he was right.  Few bakeries are able to replicate good croissants; more often when I order a croissant, I’m disappointed.  But this bakery was exceptional.

From the outside this store front in a strip mall does not look like a traditional French bakery.  But once inside the smells overwhelmed you...OH LA LA.

Leaving the bakery around 10 AM, we said our good byes, exchanged hugs, and headed south as we continued my mini Middlebury reunion tour.  We originally intended to visit the Moore’s Creek National Battlefield, however, it was raining cats and dogs, so walking the grounds of a Revolutionary War battlefield would not have been fun.

Continuing south we arrived at Bill and Mila Millmans’ home in Sunset Beach around 1:30 PM.  (Bill was the first friend that I established on my first day as a freshman at Middlebury, and we’ve remained close friends ever since.)  Mila is a wonderful cook, who loves sharing her creations, and she served up an incredible lunch of chicken curry, pita bread, and eggplant.  She even topped off our lunch with a mango sorbet.  What a treat!

The Millman's home is located on a small pond, which is filled with alligators.  It's not unusual to spot several of the reptiles sunning themselves along the golf course on the far side of the pond.  Although it hard to tell, Bill has installed a fence along the pond to keep the gators off his property.

We spent the rest of the afternoon bringing each other up to date with our all travels, medical issues, and family events.

Eventually we went out for dinner at  the “Parson’s Table”  which is located in a charming old wooden church in Little River, South Carolina.  Our meal was delightful, and really a trip back in time.

Pork Schnitzel

Rack of Lamb

Grouper

Prime Rib...Rosemary would not love this!

We closed the evening enjoying multiple slide shows of Bill & Mila's travels in Vietnam, Japan, Cambodian, Albania, Korea, and the Dominican Republic.  Obviously they love to travel and as retirees of the US Foreign Service, they've traveled a lot.

    1. I got so excited to see Mila's meal, that I forgot to photograph it. I only wish I were fit.
